Winning Habits in Chess

Chess improvement is not about occasional bursts of study, it's about daily habits. Small, consistent actions compound over time. Players who solve 15 puzzles daily for a year improve more than those who study 8 hours one weekend per month.

Daily habits

  1. Solve 15 puzzles every day.
  2. Review one of your games.
  3. Study one new concept for 15 minutes.
  4. Play at least one game at a longer time control.
  5. Write one observation in your chess journal.

Game-day habits

  • Before: Review your opening preparation. Warm up with puzzles.
  • During: Use a thinking process for every move.
  • After: Analyse the game without an engine. Record key insights.
