Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours? Check the Help Center or contact us.
Is ChessBhumi free to use?
Yes. Playing games, solving puzzles, earning an Elo rating and studying openings are all free. There's no pay-to-win, and you can start a quick game without even creating an account.
Do I need an account to play?
You can jump into a game right away, but creating a free account lets you keep a rating, save your game history, track puzzle progress, add friends and customize your board.
How does the rating system work?
Rated games use the Elo system. Beat a higher-rated player and you gain more points; lose to a lower-rated one and you lose more. Each time control (bullet, blitz, rapid, classical) has its own rating, and your profile shows a full rating-history graph.
What time controls can I play?
ChessBhumi supports the full range — from fast bullet and blitz to longer rapid and classical games — with live clocks and increments. You can also queue for matchmaking or challenge a specific friend.
How does matchmaking work?
Join the queue for your chosen time control and we pair you with an available opponent close to your rating. If a friend is waiting, the second person to queue is matched instantly.
Can I play against the computer?
Yes. Head to Play vs computer for an unrated game against the engine at a range of strengths, including Chess960, whenever you want to practise without affecting your rating.
Can I play privately with a friend?
Absolutely. Create a private game and share the invite link or code — only someone with that link can join, and private games stay off the public lobby.
What is your fair-play policy?
Rated chess only matters if it's honest. Using an engine, another person, or any outside assistance during a rated game is not allowed. We use fair-play measures to protect the rating pool, and you can report suspicious play from a player's profile. See our Terms & Conditions for the full policy.
Is my personal data safe?
We collect only what we need to run your account and the game, and we never sell your personal data. Read the full details in our Privacy Policy.
How do I report a player or a bug?
To report a player, open their profile and use the report option. For bugs or anything else, email chessbhumi19@gmail.com or use the Contact page.
Do you have puzzles and lessons?
Yes — a daily puzzle, themed puzzle sets and rated puzzle training, plus an opening explorer, format guides, a glossary and a checkmate-pattern library to help you improve.
Can I use ChessBhumi on my phone?
Yes. ChessBhumi works in any modern mobile browser and can be installed as an app (PWA) on both Android and iOS for a full-screen, app-like experience.
