Legends: tens of thousands of master games, live broadcasts, and a much bigger opening explorer.
- AddedLegends — a browsable archive of tens of thousands of master games, from world-championship classics and super-tournaments to the famous immortal games, each with a full replay board and full-strength engine annotations. Explore by great player, by event, or by era.
- AddedLive Broadcasts — follow the world's top tournaments as they happen, relayed board by board and refreshed in near real time. Every round is archived automatically into Legends once it finishes.
- AddedEvery opening page now lists real master games that reached that opening — matched by ECO and paginated through the whole archive — and its board is now interactive, so you can play moves to explore the line right there.
- ImprovedThe Opening Explorer is far bigger, with thousands more named openings, and its "games with this line" now come from the master-game archive rather than a handful of site games.
- ImprovedCheckmate-pattern and tactics pages now hand you real puzzles for that exact motif — back-rank mate, smothered mate, the fork, pin, skewer and more — with one-tap themed training.
- Improved"How to play chess" now has an interactive board: pick any piece and instantly see every square it can move to.
- ImprovedFollowing a live broadcast with many games at once is much smoother and lighter on data — only the boards that actually moved refresh.
- FixedChess boards now open at a sensible, readable size on every page, and resizing one board no longer changes the board size on other pages (a refresh always returns to the default).
A faster, opt-in engine.
- ImprovedThe in-browser Stockfish engine now loads only when you switch it on, so analysis boards, the Opening Explorer and viewers open faster and use less memory until you actually need the engine.
Sharper game-review judgment.
- FixedGame review classifies great moves, mistakes and blunders more accurately, so the summary better reflects how the game actually went.
Clubs page tidied up, plus club moderation.
- FixedThe "Create a club" form was laid out incorrectly — the name and description boxes overlapped. They now stack cleanly.
- AddedClubs can now be moderated. They still go live as soon as you create them, but our team can now take a club offline or remove it if it breaks the rules — and the owner is notified if that happens.
Premove selection no longer gets stuck.
- FixedWhen you picked up a piece to premove and your opponent moved before you chose a destination, the board could freeze until you right-clicked. It now clears that half-made premove automatically the moment the opponent moves, so you can play straight away. Fully set premoves still fire as normal.
A more golden look, and small fixes.
- ImprovedPrimary buttons across the site now use our signature gold, and stay crisp and readable when you hover over them (previously the label could turn hard to read).
- FixedMatch History no longer shows "null" next to your name for games played against the computer (those games are unrated).
A cleaner sign-in when your session times out.
- FixedOpening or reloading a signed-in page (like My Games) after your session had timed out showed a raw error message instead of the site. You now get the normal sign-in screen, and after signing in you land back on the page you were trying to reach.
Your games vs the computer are saved, and public studies are reviewed.
- AddedGames against the computer are now saved to your account. They appear in My Games alongside your online games and can be opened in Game Review like any other game. They stay unrated and never affect your rating, stats or leaderboard position.
- AddedStudies you publish publicly are now checked by a moderator before they appear in the public list. Your study is yours to work on immediately, and you get a notification as soon as it goes live. Private and unlisted studies are unaffected.
- FixedGame Review now shows the real player names instead of just "White" and "Black".
Game review accuracy you can actually trust.
- ImprovedGame review is far more accurate. Every position in your game is now analysed by full-strength Stockfish 18 running in your browser, instead of the lightweight server engine — so accuracy scores, blunder/mistake counts and the eval graph now reflect how you really played. Strong games score like strong games.
- ImprovedMove judgment now matches the accuracy score. Blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies are measured by how much winning chance a move actually throws away, so a small slip in a won position is no longer flagged as a blunder — and a quiet move that loses the game no longer slips through unmarked.
- AddedYou can now resign against the computer, with a quick confirmation so it can't be clicked by accident.
- FixedPremoves now follow the rules of chess. Against the computer, a premove could previously be set to any square at all — a king could be sent two squares up the board. Picking a piece up now also shows where it can be premoved to.
- FixedRight-click now reliably cancels a premove on every board, including while you are still choosing where to move, and no longer opens the browser menu over the board.
- FixedLeaderboards now only rank players who have actually played that category. Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, Classical and Chess960 boards no longer list everyone at an unplayed default rating — which had them outranking players who'd earned a real one.
- FixedThe notifications dropdown is readable in light mode again (it was dark text on a dark panel).
- FixedLeaving a tab open until your session expired no longer fails silently — the page now tells you, and offers a link to sign back in.
- FixedOpening a game review no longer needs a page refresh to show the report.
Engine lines now play as real analysis notation.
- AddedIn Classroom, clicking an engine-suggested move now adds it as a proper analysis variation in the shared notation — shown in parentheses next to the actual game, exactly like chess.com, Lichess and ChessBase.
The engine gets smarter to use.
- AddedTurn the live engine on or off from any board — Classroom, Studies, the Opening Explorer, PGN/FEN viewers and more all now have the same switch as Analysis.
- AddedClick any move in the engine's suggested line to play it out on the board and keep analysing from there — great for exploring "what if" continuations.
A world-class engine, right in your browser.
- AddedPlay vs AI now runs Stockfish 18 — one of the strongest chess engines in the world — directly in your browser. Choose any strength from beginner to full power on the new Elo slider.
- AddedA live Stockfish evaluation with a numbered best line across the site — the Analysis board, Opening Explorer, Studies, the PGN and FEN viewers, and game replays — plus an engine review after you finish a puzzle.
- AddedChoose where the evaluation bar sits — inside the panel, or as a vertical bar beside the board (the classic layout) — from the ⚙ menu on any analysis board. Your choice is remembered everywhere.
- AddedBoard colours and piece styles can now be customised on the Analysis and Classroom boards too, and the live engine has a clean on/off switch.
- ImprovedGame analysis is now full-strength for everyone, computed privately on your own device with no waiting on the server.
A tidier top navigation.
- AddedA new "More" menu in the top navigation gathers tournaments, clubs, tools, studies and your account links in one organised place.
- AddedOn phones, a hamburger menu opens the full navigation as a slide-down drawer — so every section is reachable on mobile.
- FixedThe navigation bar no longer overflows or hides your account menu on smaller and higher-scaled displays.
Meet your new Play vs AI coach.
- AddedCoach Neeti — an animated commentator on Play vs AI who reacts to every move, cheering your best ideas, flagging the slips, and chatting while you think.
- ImprovedThe computer opponent now paces its replies more naturally, and speeds up when your clock is running low.
Stability and polish across live games, profiles and content.
- FixedIn-game chat now delivers messages reliably during a live game.
- FixedPlayer profile pages render fully, including the rating history graph.
- ImprovedFaster page loads — lighter scripts and leaner content pages.
- AddedNew Company, Support and Legal pages, including this changelog.
Learning and study upgrades.
- AddedOpening explorer with ECO codes and transposition-aware detection.
- AddedCheckmate-pattern library and an expanded glossary.
- ImprovedPuzzle training now adapts more closely to your puzzle rating.
Real-time engine and clocks.
- ImprovedLower-latency move delivery with server-anchored clocks that stay in sync on every screen.
- AddedPremoves across all time controls, plus rematch offers.
- FixedMore accurate timeout and disconnect handling under the FIDE rules.
ChessBhumi launch.
- AddedReal-time online play with matchmaking and Elo ratings.
- AddedPlay vs computer, Chess960, puzzles, clubs, tournaments and coaches.
- AddedFree tools: PGN viewer, FEN editor, embeddable board and streamer overlay.
