ChessBhumi stands on the shoulders of an extraordinary open community. A great deal of what makes the site useful is built on data and software that others created and generously placed in the public domain, or released under open licences. This page is our thank-you to them.

We owe a particular debt of gratitude to Lichess.org — the free, open-source chess server run as a non-profit for the good of the game. Lichess publishes several of its datasets openly for anyone to build on, and that generosity directly enriches ChessBhumi. Wherever we rely on their work we do so in accordance with its licence, and with genuine appreciation for their mission of keeping chess free for everyone.
- Opening database. Our Opening Explorer and ECO pages are built on the community-maintained lichess-org/chess-openings project, dedicated to the public domain under Creative Commons CC0.
- Puzzle database. Our tactics trainer draws on the openly published Lichess puzzle database, released under Creative Commons CC0 — hundreds of thousands of puzzles mined from real games.
- Broadcast relays. Live tournament coverage, and the ongoing growth of our Legends archive, are relayed from the public Lichess Broadcasts API, which makes elite over-the-board games openly available in real time.
Stockfish
Position analysis, move evaluations and our Play-vs-Computer opponent are powered by Stockfish — one of the strongest chess engines in the world, developed by a global community of volunteers and released under the GNU General Public License. Stockfish runs privately in your own browser; we are grateful to its authors and contributors for making world-class analysis freely available to everyone.
Piece sets and board artwork
The chess piece designs you can choose in board settings come from open-source and freely licensed artwork created by the wider chess community, including sets popularised by Lichess and by Wikimedia contributors. We thank every artist who has shared their work for others to build upon.

Beyond any single project, ChessBhumi exists because of a culture of openness in the chess world — the players, arbiters, developers and volunteers who share games, data and software so that everyone can learn and enjoy the game. Thank you.
