Chess Improvement Formula
There's a formula to chess improvement, not a magic trick, but a proven ratio of study activities that produces consistent results. National masters and titled players follow this formula intuitively. Now you can follow it deliberately.
The formula
- 40% Tactics: Daily puzzles and calculation training.
- 25% Game Analysis: Analyse your own games + study master games.
- 20% Endgames: Systematic endgame study.
- 15% Openings: Build a repertoire gradually.
How to apply it
If you study 1 hour daily: 24 min tactics, 15 min game analysis, 12 min endgames, 9 min openings. Adjust based on your current level. Below 1500, increase tactics to 50%. Above 2000, increase openings to 25%. The key: consistency.
