Mukhiddin Madaminov's UzChess Cup Win
Mukhiddin Madaminov won the 3rd UzChess Cup Masters in Tashkent (June 7-15, 2026), beating fellow Uzbek Shamsiddin Vokhidov 2-0 in blitz tiebreaks to take the $20,000 top prize. He entered the event as the bottom seed, a late replacement for Javokhir Sindarov, and left it with the best month among the world's top-25 juniors on the July FIDE rating list.
A replacement player wins the whole thing
Madaminov was not the story anyone expected out of Tashkent. He filled a field slot vacated by Javokhir Sindarov, entered as the tournament's lowest seed, and by the final round had fought his way into a tie for first requiring a blitz tiebreak against fellow Uzbek Shamsiddin Vokhidov, in front of a home crowd for both players.
Winning it in tiebreaks
Madaminov settled the title with a clean 2-0 blitz sweep of Vokhidov, a decisive rather than nervy finish once the classical stage ended level. Winning a tiebreak outright, rather than surviving it, tends to say more about a player's form in the moment than the classical score that forced the tiebreak in the first place.
What it did to his ranking
The win made Madaminov the biggest gainer among the world's top-25 juniors on the July 2026 FIDE list, a meaningful marker given how competitive that age bracket has become, with Gukesh, Sindarov, Erigaisi and others already established at the very top. Replacing a withdrawn top seed and outright winning the event he replaced them in is about as strong a statement as a young player can make with one tournament.
