Think 30 Seconds, Find GM Moves
Grandmasters don't calculate every possibility, they use a structured thinking process that filters out bad moves instantly. In 30 seconds, they check threats, identify candidate moves, and choose the best one. You can learn the same process.
The 30-second method
- Seconds 1-5: Scan for threats, is anything attacked? Any checks?
- Seconds 5-15: List 2-3 candidate moves, checks, captures, and threats first.
- Seconds 15-25: Evaluate each candidate, which creates the most problems?
- Seconds 25-30: Choose and play confidently. This process works in blitz, rapid, and even bullet.
Why it works
GMs don't see more moves, they eliminate bad ones faster. Pattern recognition instantly flags the 2-3 moves worth considering. The rest are discarded. Build your pattern library with daily puzzle training.
