Promotion
A pawn reaching the last rank becomes a stronger piece.
Promotion occurs when a pawn reaches the far rank; it must become a queen, rook, bishop or knight. Choosing a queen is most common ("queening"); choosing another piece is "underpromotion". In notation: e8=Q.
