Quiet Move

A non-forcing move that sets up a threat instead of making one immediately.

A quiet move makes no check, capture or direct threat, yet is the key move of a combination — often making a subtle threat, cutting off an escape square, or preparing a decisive follow-up. Quiet moves are notoriously hard to find in puzzles because they don't look forcing.
