Fool's Mate (the 2-move mate)
Fool's mate is the quickest checkmate possible: Black mates on move two after White fatally weakens the squares around the king with the pawn moves f3 and g4.
After 1.f3 e5 2.g4?? Qh4# — the queen mates along the undefended e1–h4 diagonal.
How it works
Moving the f- and g-pawns opens the e1–h4 diagonal straight to White's king while removing every defender. The black queen lands on h4 with no way to stop the check.
The lesson
Avoid making early pawn moves that expose your king's diagonal. The pattern is rare in real games but teaches a vital principle: king safety first.
